Step 1: Installing Outplayed
- Download Outplayed Here.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once installed, launch Outplayed from the Overwolf dock or your desktop shortcut.
Outplayed will launch automatic whenever an enabled game is opened so you don't need to remember to manually open it in the future.
Step 2: Choosing Your Recording Quality
Want to get the best balance between smooth performance and high-quality footage? You can adjust your recording quality settings to match your PC's capabilities.
We recommend "Medium" for most users- it offers great quality with minimal impact on performance. You can always change these setting later on!
If you would like to change the settings once Outplayed has been installed simply:
Open Outplayed.
Click the Settings icon.
Go to the Capture tab.
Select a preset: Low, Medium, High, or Custom.
Minimum Requirements
If you’re unsure whether your system can handle recording at higher settings, here are the basic requirements:

Step 3: Setting up Storage Auto-Manage
Outplayed includes a handy Storage Auto-Manage feature that helps prevent your disk from filling up by automatically deleting older or lower-priority clips.
Here's how it works:
The Auto-Manager will auto-delete clips based on the amount of storage space you decide to allocate to recordings and the recording age.
Don't want to delete that clip from 2019 when the world was a different place? Just Mark it as Favorite and the Auto-Manager will leave it alone.
It helps keep your drive clean without you lifting a finger.
When first setting up Outplayed you can adjust the allocated space during the installation process:
To enable or adjust Storage Auto-Manage once Outplayed has been installed:
Open Outplayed > Settings > Storage Auto-Manage:
Choose the rules that work best for your storage needs
For more details, check out the full FAQ here.
Step 4: Choosing the Right Media Folder
By default, clips are saved to your C: drive, and we highly recommend keeping it that way. Using a non-C drive (like D: or E:) may cause:
Clips to not be processed correctly
Recording to become disconnected or deleted
The app will revert to C: automatically if the external drive fails as a failsafe but this may cause all previous recording on the non-C drive to become corrupted, disconnected or deleted.
When first setting up Outplayed you can change the Media folder location during the installation process:
To change your Media folder once Outplayed has been installed (if needed):
Follow the steps here: How to change the Media folder
If you must use a non-C drive, we recommend making regular backups: How to backup and restore your recordings
Step 5: Choose your hotkeys
Outplayed has the automatic Capture Modes for most games, but you can also set up some hotkeys. With hotkeys, you can:
Start or stop recording manually
Save a replay on demand
Take a quick screenshot mid-game
You can edit the hotkeys further once the installation has been completed using the steps here: https://support.overwolf.com/en/support/solutions/articles/9000208995-how-to-use-outplayed#How-to-view-and-change-your-Outplayed-hotkeys

Step 7: How to Record Your Gameplay Automatically
Outplayed supports automatic recording for a variety of games. It starts capturing key moments as soon as you're in-game.
To get started:
Launch a supported game.
Outplayed will recognize it and begin recording automatically (if enabled).
After your session, check the Outplayed app to view and edit your clips.
You can check supported games in the app settings:
Game not in the list? No worries! You can always enable it manually using the steps Here.
If your game isn't currently supported by Outplayed request new games and vote on game suggestions Here. Please search if your game request already exists before submitting a new one.
In the meanwhile, you can always manually record your game with the Screen recorder feature.
Step 8: Automatic Capture Modes
Outplayed offers several recording modes so you can choose how much of your gameplay gets saved:
Highlights- Automatically records only key moments like kills, deaths, and assists. Great for keeping storage light.
Got a game you'd love to see added? Submit your request here. Be sure to check if a similar idea already exists so you can upvote it!
Full Session- Records everything from the moment you launch the game until you close it.
Full Match- Records your full match (from start to end) without needing to catch every second of the session.
Manual- Record only what you want, when you want. Use a hotkey to start and stop recording manually.
You can choose your preferred mode under Settings > Capture Settings.
Click Here for more info on the different Capture Modes.
How Game Event Detection Works
Outplayed uses the Overwolf platform to detect in-game events in real time- like kills, deaths, and assists, to help automatically record your best (and worst) moments.
That said, adding support for real-time events in a new game isn’t simple! It requires ongoing maintenance and permission from game developers. Because of this, only select games are supported. We're always working on adding more games to Outplayed, so your favorite might be next!
You can always submit your request here. Be sure to check if a similar idea already exists so you can upvote it.
Step 9: Using Hotkeys to Record Clips
Want to manually record a clutch moment? Just press your hotkey!
Note: Make sure that your keyboard is set to English first.
To set up or change hotkeys:
Open Outplayed.
Click on your game under the My Games section.
Scroll down to the Hotkeys section.
Assign or change hotkeys for actions like "Start/stop Recording", "Start/stop bookmarking" or "Save Replay."
The hotkey options will change according to the Capture Mode being used.
You can find further information on setting up the Outplayed hotkeys Here.
Step 10: Viewing & Editing Your Clips
All your clips are saved in one place- The Sessions tab! Easy to review, trim, and share.
To view:
Open Outplayed and go to the Sessions tab:
Then click a clip to watch it:
You can then trim the clip, rename it, mark it as favorite or delete the clip if you want to forget it ever happened.
You can also share your clip with friends! You can find further info in our Sharing Clips FAQ.
Bonus Tip: Manual Screen Recording
Need to record third-party overlays? Use the Screen Recorder feature instead of the Capture Modes.
This captures everything on your screen, not just the game window.
