What is Intel Quick Sync?

Intel Quick Sync is a hardware video encoding and decoding technology built into many Intel CPUs.
It offloads video encoding from your CPU to the integrated Intel graphics processor (iGPU), improving performance and recording efficiency.

Quick Sync was introduced with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor family on January 9, 2011.
If your CPU includes integrated graphics, you may be able to use Intel Quick Sync by following the steps below.

How do I enable Intel Quick Sync?

If Intel Quick Sync is not available in Overwolf’s capture settings, follow the steps below.

1. Check if your CPU supports Quick Sync

  • Use this guide to confirm whether your Intel CPU supports Quick Sync.

  • If your CPU does not support the feature, you won’t be able to use this encoder.

2. Make sure your motherboard supports Intel integrated graphics (iGPU)

Some motherboards (e.g., Intel P67 series) disable or do not support the integrated GPU, meaning Quick Sync cannot be used even if the CPU supports it.

When both your CPU and motherboard support Quick Sync:

Follow these steps to enable it:

1. Enable Intel integrated graphics (iGPU) in your BIOS

  • Access your motherboard’s BIOS and enable the iGPU option.

  • Because BIOS menus vary widely, refer to your motherboard’s manual or manufacturer’s website.

  • You can also use this general guide for reference.

2. Install the latest chipset drivers

  • Make sure your CPU and motherboard chipset drivers are up to date.

  • Download the latest drivers here.

3. Enable your Intel display in Windows

  1. Right-click your desktop and select Display Settings.

  2. Click Detect to locate inactive displays.

  3. Look for the display labeled “Another display not detected” (this corresponds to your Intel iGPU).

  4. Select it, then choose “Try to connect anyway”.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. Select your main display and set it to “Extend desktop to this display.”

  7. Click Apply, then confirm by selecting “Keep changes.”

4. Enable Quick Sync in Overwolf

Once the iGPU is active, you can enable Intel Quick Sync in Overwolf:

  1. Open Overwolf Settings (wrench icon).

  2. Go to the Capture tab.

  3. Click Advanced.

  4. Scroll to Encoding.

  5. Open the dropdown menu and select Intel Quick Sync.

  6. Test the encoder by recording with any supported recording app.
